If you are like me, you may find yourself a victim of comparison, overthinking, or simply asking yourself if you are qualified for something. Sounds familiar? This may be a case of Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter Syndrome, although not an official diagnosis, has been recognized since the 1970s, according to Psychology Today. Did you know “around 25 to 30 percent of high achievers may suffer from imposter syndrome?” Any one guilty of being a high achiever? Well, I am certainly guilty. Psychology Today also found that “around 70 percent of adults may experience impostorism at least once in their lifetime.”
Many people who struggle with Imposter Syndrome find themselves celebrating their many successes only to find themselves later sinking under pressure or feeling inadequate. Because of this, I am approaching this topic from a stance that many of us have probably done, and that is wondering if we were even qualified to go after the many assignments before us.
Reasons we may not feel qualified:
1. Sometimes you don’t feel qualified because you did not go the traditional route to get to where you are now.
2. You think about past instances where you may have been looked over or failed and now you begin to associate those past experiences with this next role that is before you.
3. You are at a place where you cannot lean on what you know.
4. You point out your flaws. Did you know Moses in the Bible did this same thing?
In this episode, I am talking about my own experience from college to the workforce and the internal struggles I faced.
Key Takeaways:
-As you begin to shift or transition in life, you will be presented with situations that will cause you to wonder if you are ready to advance to the next level.
-Glean from your past experiences. Those experiences were strategically orchestrated by God to prepare you for this particular moment that is set before you.
-The door that you are hesitant to walk through can be the door that ushers you into your destiny.
-Trust God, trust yourself, and move forward. Whatever else is needed along your journey, God is going to supply you with it.
